Amazing piece! Will be playing airborne soon with the UBC Symphonic winds!
Thank you Hudson!
Very moving piece, I thought. I was tickled and thrilled to see a person of a disability in this. This is what life is and should be about!
Indeed, Vanessa-- yes!
Luminous as always.
Ooh, thank you Ed!
Just love it. ❤ 😍
Thank you, Vanessa!
Absolutely beautiful….. I’m not a huge fan of choral works, but this is gorgeous!!!! As a fan of your wind symphony compositions I expected nothing but pure musical greatness!!!! Makes me want to “Celebrate”!!!!!
Thank you SO much-- you are very kind!
@@ComposerAlexShapiro You’re very welcome!!! I think that when someone does something amazing, like composing something beautiful, that they should be recognized!!!! 💕❤️
Another beautiful composition!!!! Excellent performance!!!!
Thank you so much! The ensemble sounded great, and Cynthia Johnston Turner is an amazing conductor!
How fitting… Alex Shapiro has finally written a song about my huge DONG AND BALLS! Unfortunately.. the song is not an accurate representation of my beautiful manhood. Much love please make better music :) please try again
Ascent? More like descending into flipping madness listening to this piece of trash song! This song… is a DONG! (one that bends to the left) it is nasty and hard to listen to.. something like this cannot be considered music or art. It is NOISE. It sounds like you put a microphone in a washing machine and pressed record. In other words.. I don’t like the song. Grow up!
Down in San Juan islands, is there any shells?
Wow! Just beautiful - captivating and transporting. I’ve always loved your chamber work, but you also handle large forces quite well.
Thank you so much, Bill!
Another beautiful composition!!! Great performance!!!
Thank you! Sarah Wagner did a wonderful job with this!
Trascendent amd beautiful to hear! Compliments! You are really good!
I love the drama and motion. The train references move the piece from being just music to it being a story with a concrete setting. Beautiful richness in the harmonies.
Thank you so much, Arthur!
Never been there in the winter, spent lots of summers on Orcas. Might look for a nice retirement home there.
Wonderful soundscape encompassing elements of mechanization and craftsman originality.
SO COOL! What a fun production!

Apparently the word, composer, is used quite liberally these days.
This is ridiculously cool. I really enjoy your compositions. Do you have any premiers coming up(likely live streamed)?
Thank you-- I appreciate your kind words! While I don't know performance schedules, you can listen to this and many other electroacoustic large ensemble works on this page of my site: www.alexshapiro.org/ASWindBand.html
So funny! We also take video in the car wash, though not accompanied by such great music!
Another beautiful composition!!! I absolutely love it!!! Huge fan of your works!!! Great performance!!!
Thank you so very much, Roheryn!
Love it!!!
Beautiful composition!! I love it! Great performance too!! Thanks for the upload!!!
International Alliance for Women in Music has several categories of composition prizes. Alex is a wonderful sponsor and advocate! IAWM also recently launched a GRANT for K-12 educators who include women in music in their curriculum.
Thrilling and upflifting! Thanks :)
This is absolutely incredible!
Thank you, Jamie!
Beautiful piece!!! Great performance!!! Love it!!
Thank you!
Thank you so much for composing this wonderful piece. Very nice performance, too. The general mood and harmonic complexity reminds me of Chick Corea's Trio for Flute, Bassoon, and Piano, though yours is a little more light-hearted. Sorry it took me 7 years to find your youtube. I'm guessing you are familiar with Camarada's youtube posting of your composition (though it's title seems to have a typo ("re-pair" instead of "re:pair").
Thank you so much for this thoughtful comment, and for directing me to two wonderful things I hadn't heard before: Chick Corea's trio, and the beautiful tone of Camarada's Beth Ross Buckley and Andrea Overturf! I'll be sure to drop them a note of appreciation.
Love these storm videos....and you kitty talking..asking you what you were doing
Hello, Alex. Awesome video. I watched it several times. My times in the San Juan Islands have been most enjoyable. “Comet” is great. Well done! I’ll have to check out your website.
I have to play this in band 🙄🤦♂️
This is one of the first pieces I heard of yours, and this video makes me so excited!!
Wow, thank you Jamie!
On March 15, 2019, my 7th grader played this song for the New Hampshire Band Director’s Association 2019 located at the Salem NH High School, I must say this song sounded Awesome 👏🏾. The director, Dr. Mark Strickney carefully explained the history of the song and the composer Alex Shapiro before the Concert Band performed this piece. I must say, I enjoyed this song, it sounds better live, and I was saddened when the song was over. The Concert Band played this song w/o missing a lick. The entire Middle Level Honors Festival 2019 was a marvelous experience. Thank you Alex Shapiro for allowing my daughter to perform “Rock Music”. 👍🏾🎼🎹🥁🎷🎺🎸🎻👏🏾
Thanks so much! Mark Stickney is a wonderful conductor and I'm delighted that your daughter had a positive experience with this piece!
Alex Shapiro, My family and I are so happy you responded back. My daughter will share our RUclips experience next week with her teachers and friends. May God bless you and we respect your music. I will subscribe to your channel. Thank you and God bless🙏🏾.
We had to play this for GMEA district...it was embarrassing

If you could, what are the average storm conditions, mainly high winds (YIKES!)...Are they common and is easy to evacuate if need be?
I don't know what the historic averages are, but in the seven years I lived in this house on the southern, windiest edge of San Juan Island, it was quite common to have steady winds from 30-40 mph with gusts to 50, and a few times the gusts reached a little over 70 mph. One gets used to the former, but the latter most definitely gets one's attention! Evacuation is easy if you're aware and prepared (should a very large window, or the roof, suddenly become compromised).
Thank you, I would have a tough time with that much wind if I were to live there..40 mph is when I hide under the bed..I think I will visit though....State park must have campsites.Have a great day
What a beautiful world you have captured and created! Outstanding!
Thank you so much, Bill!
Love this! More, more!
Thank you, dear Michael!
Love this piece. . . . thanks
Thanks, Paul! You certainly know the trumpet version!
Nice music ... =)
Thanks!
